LittleBlueRhinos Holiday Page 1997
I have recently returned from a weeks holiday near Shrewsbury, on the Welsh-English borders. I had a lovely time with some friends of mine, mostly resting and enjoying the good air and the peace and quiet of the countryside -Phil was a bit grumpy because the only pub in walking distance had only poor beer- and looking at the cows outside the back window, one of which had a small calf.
Anyway,
on to our photos (click on any of the small pictures to see them full size)
:- The first is a picture of Well Cottage, situated just outside Loppington
in Shropshire. It was small but very comfortable, and very quiet, just
what was wanted. The car is a Laguna, which we found to be a pleasant mode
of transportation.
One
place we visited was Ironbridge, named after -unsurprisingly- the first
iron bridge in the world, built in 1779 and still, as you can see, standing.
It is, in it's way, a beautiful structure, a precursor of the industrial
magnificence that was to be brought to the world by the great engineers
of the age.
This
is where Phil was almost apprehended by the long arm of the law and Bearly
got away. HoHoHo!
There
is in the Ironbridge Gorge, a museum made up of several museums, spread
over a distance of some 4 miles -some 6-7 kilometres- and dealing with
all the iron-smelting and iron-working going back at least 4 centuries.
There is also a Victorian Village set in the year 1900 where you can dress
up as a Victorian and have your picture taken. They are very funny. Catherine
looks sad, but she was told to look serious.
